Certified Equine Sports Massage Therapist (CESMT) ~ Certified Canine Sports Massage Therapist (CCSMT)
Equine Massage:
I do not charge for how long the massage takes. Every horse is different & I will take as much time that is needed to ensure quality in every massage your horse receives!
Sports Massage: is used as a maintenance and preventative routine to keep your horse in prime condition. It is also used as a vehicle to assess the horse for stress and trigger points and muscle spasms requiring release.
- After the initial 2-4 massages the sports massage should be performed every 4 to 6 weeks on healthy muscle.
- During show/event season it should be performed every 2 to 4 weeks.
Therapeutic Deep Muscle Massage: is the same sequence of sports massage, and is performed with a deeper weight of hand for the equine that enjoys a heavier touch or is being rehabilitated from an injury. Trigger point therapy is used.
Sports or Therapeutic deep muscle massage should be performed approximately one week prior to a show or event to increase circulation throughout the body and to release stress or target points.
Maintenance and Recuperative Massage:
- Used primarily to increase circulation of the blood and lymph systems to eliminate waste and toxins.
- Helps the body to heal more quickly and more efficiently.
- Relieves stress on compensatory muscles.
- Helps relieve pain from the arthritic and/or retired horse
- Great for the trail horse and/or lightly showed horse
- After the initial 2 to 4 sessions this massage should be preformed every 4 to 8 weeks.
Pre-Event Massage:
- Readies the horse for his event by loosening and warming the muscles.
- This is 20 to 30 minute session and should be performed 30 minutes prior to the event, followed by walk.
- A light stretch can also be done at this time.
Post-Event Massage:
- Relieves muscle pain and stiffness by helping muscles return to their original length and helping the body eliminate lactic acid to prevent fatigue and soreness.
- Performed approximately 30 minutes after the event and is a 15 to 20 minute session.
- A light stretch can also be done at this time.

What you can expect on the first massage:
- Evaluation- checks for muscle soreness, spasms, tightness and knots in the muscles.
- Informed consent form- to be signed by the owner and myself prior to the massage.
- The first massage is very general, it covers the whole body and is used to loosen the muscles. I do not use very heavy pressure on the first massage in order to prevent bruising of the sore/tight muscles. The second massage is a lot deeper and is used to start working the knots and spasms out of the muscles.
- I prefer the first and second massage to be within one week of each other. In order to 1-loosen the muscles and 2-to work out knots & spasms. After that we are able to start a maintenance schedule to fit your horse's needs.
Chiropractic care
- If your horse/dog is going to be getting an adjustment from an animal chiropractor, I recommend to have your horse/dog massaged about 2 days prior to the adjustment to loosen the muscles, which allows for the adjustment to take better.
- If you are in need of an Equine and/or Canine Chiropractor, I highly recommend

Requirements:
- Your horses (body and legs) should be clear of clumps of dirt and manure. Hoofs should be picked clean. If moderate grooming is needed, a charge of $5.00 will be added to the session.
- Please have your horse prepared so we can get straight to work when I arrive.
- Someone should be available at the end of each massage session to walk the horse to gradually cool the muscles and prevent post massage stiffness. If the owner or groom is not available I will walk the horse for 5-10 min. for an additional $5.00.
- Stretching is an important part of a long-term program and is a great opportunity for the owner to enhance the relationship with their horse. I am also available to stretch your horse at the end of the session for an additional charge of $10.00.
- Please provide 24 hours advance notice if you and your horse is unable to keep the session.
- If your appointment is booked during one of my ~special~ events please provide a 48hr advance notice if you are unable to keep the session.
Some of the important benefits of regular massage:
*Massage Therapists are NOT primary health care providers *Massage Therapists do NOT diagnosis nor prescribe *If there are any doubts concerning the health of the animal, refer to a veterinarian.
